Next time you go to the grocery store, take a little
extra time to plan for your snacks and lunches. It can
be tricky to look for foods that are both nutritious and
appealing, but it can be done.
Here are some suggestions:
- Choose fresh fruits and vegetables; avoid the candy
aisle.
- Go for fresh baby carrots, peppers, cherry
tomatoes, melon, berries, apples, and oranges.
- Choose chicken without the skin and avoid the fried
chicken nuggets.
- Buy lowfat or no-fat milk; not whole milk.
- Does your child love hot dogs? If so, look for a low-
fat brand.
- Search for some fat-free crunchy snacks or air-
popped popcorn.
- Select a whole grain, low-sugar cereal, and stay
away from the sugar coated types.
- Avoid the bologna and look for low-fat turkey breast.
- Have lots of healthy choices available for your child
and pack ample snacks and lunches.
- Stay away from “fast food”; No burgers and fries.
- Limit soft drinks; ask for water instead of refilling
your soft drink at restaurants.
